I See You!

I wrote this poem while I was working at the crisis diversion center in Mobile, AL. I learned a lot from working there.

Just know to not give up and there is hope.

I see you looking all around.

You seem to be down.

I really want to tell you that things will be okay.

I know life is harder then what people say.

People can listen and give you advice.

The job is really yours it just comes with a price.

You must be your own hero.

You are not a zero!

The trauma you experienced is real,

It is okay to feel.

The truth is you must feel to heal.

I know that for you things may not be ideal.

I too have been in the position of wanting to give up.

I had to learn it was my own job to fill my cup!

I gave and gave until I couldn’t no more.

The pain is real and it’s hard to ignore.

For so long I tried and tried to avoid.

Until I couldn’t and I felt so destroyed.

I have worked hard to heal for a few years now.

I really can’t explain the many ways how.

A lot of times life feels like we are in a war.

It is true that our body really keeps the score.

We must take things hour by hour and day by day.

That is what we must do sometimes to try to be okay.

We use things to numb us or fill a void.

We miss the things that we once enjoyed.

Everyone copes in many ways.

Sometimes we do it just to get through the days.

The way I cope is with work and food.

Some cope with alcohol, drugs, exercise and so many other things that is to much to include.

So when people abuse you or put you down, just remember to keep your head up and your not going to drown.

Keep up a good fight,

put in the work and things will turn out alright.

Do what you must do.

See a therapist, take meds, do self care and coping skills just for you.

You must do it just for you.

For you alone know what you have been through.

Just remember that I see you looking all around.

These words I share aren’t profound.

It is what I have learned over the years.

You too can heal and conquer all the fears.
